Words and Music by Rachelintrees
Friday night
whatcha gonna do
your friends are goin out the house to party
should you go to
or could you make a difference in the lives of those around you
There's work to do
in our community
people volunteering up their time and working for free
something more worthwhile i don't think that there could be
In Philadelphia
this wonderful city
come show your
brotherly love
brotherly love
willingly
So put down your beer
and keep your head clear
pitch in on that research project and help the community
they need you at the PhilaPhilaPhila CDRC
they need you at the PhilaPhilaPhila CDRC!
What is your song idea?
My song idea can be wrapped up in the proposed title: "It is Great to Volunteer for the Philadelphia Community Development Resource Center and Use Your Skills to Make this City an Awesome Place". Okay, the title isn't exactly set in stone.
Anyway, I recently started a community development organization in Philadelphia and have been getting volunteers applying from area colleges and I want to get them jazzed up to make a difference. There is no better way than their own special song that motivates them to skip the keg on Friday night and buckle down on a project for a local nonprofit. By writing us a song you aren't selling out and going corporate -- we're not even technically an incorporated non-profit and we don't make any money (or have any for that matter). We're just about helping out Philly's overworked non-profit sector by lending a hand.
The song needs to be happy and motivation and convey that they will make a difference. Imagine the volunteer has a beer in their hand and is about to take a drink and then your song comes on... your song needs to make them put that beer down and say "No beer! Today I'm going to work on that research project for PhilaCDRC!"
