song for a winter night

song for a winter night

oh the orbs release their light
as their hydrogen ignites
and my love does wander by my side
and sits with me tonight

oh our hearts are filled with love
they are also filled with blood
and our lungs are filled with a winter chill
and also oxygen

Let's Get Curious

Let's get curious

words and music by D.E. Healy.
mastered by pop master wide.

I got the flu
from Peggy-Sue
I got the measles from Steven
Nobody got that the sum of two odds is an even

I got a cold from Leopold
Got poison ivy from Rhoda
Nobody got St. Paul, capital of Minnesota

How'd you ever learn your ABCs?
Did someone think about letters and sneeze?

Let's get curious
Let's get serious
It's not impossible it's just mysterious

Yes, it's a stretch
but you can catch
up if you go home and practice
Don't look at me like I'm asking you to kiss a cactus

If you don't think
you need to sink your
teeth into this and start chewing
picture yourself in ten years, smell the job you'll be doing

You don't have to grow up overnight
but I expect you to put up a fight

Let's get curious
Let's get serious
It's not impossible it's just mysterious

Let's get curious

It's not impossible it's just mysterious

You're worrying again
The windmill in your head
Keeps turning, turning round
The whirring's getting loud, oh

Is there something you can do
To affect what's plaguing you?
If you have to answer "no"
Then Buddha says

"Let go, let go,
Just enjoy the moment, before it's gone."

You're worrying again
And so I have a question:

Is there something you can do
To affect what's plaguing you?
If you have to answer "yes"
Then Buddha says

"Let's go get down to business
Let's go get this work done
For when our work is over
We can focus our minds on fun."

wanderlust

The pilgrim student
Packed her bags
And left
The new world for the old

In search of roguish adventure
And a scholarly equal to gold

And she sing!

Will anybody miss me or care that I'm not there?
I shall return in one year's time better for the wear

Auf nach Deutschland
übers Meer
She boarded a ship and waved Goodbye
Landed in Brugge in three weeks time
Where sat waiting a horse for her to ride

and she sings!

Will anybody miss me or care that I'm not there?
I shall return in one year's time better for the wear

Each library in Germany did she seek
Upon her mighty steed
But she could not cross Moselle, Main or Rhine
Without queuing for ID

And she sings!

Will anybody miss me or care that I'm not there
I shall return in one year's time better for the wear

Noch einmal!

Will anybody miss me or care that I'm not there
I shall return in one year's time from this bureaucratic nightmare!

with ingred-
ients we need
to call our recipes complete

a tea tin
a mason jar
a quarter cup
a cork
a soup can
a mixing bowl
a fork

rows and stacks
and in the cracks
in the spaces in between
secret spice-
s grains of rice
inscribed with name and date and scene

a tea tin
a mason jar
a quarter cup
a cork
a soup can
a mixing bowl
a fork

oh it spills
and runs together
oh i can't
remember whether
i need love
how much love i had
left over
whether it's gone bad

thrown together

i'm a mess of vessels
and strange concoctions

Nighttime
Time to lay our heads down again
I've lived through so few moons
1 or 2 compared to you
My loves
My loves

Daytime comes at the start of the day
And is followed by the night
I will grow older and so will you
But together we'll be all right
Together we'll be all right

Nighttime
Good Nighttime

I will ask you many things
Once I learn to talk
Like why must I take a bath or do math
Or take the dog for a walk
Or take the dog for a walk

Nighttime cannot come before day
And brown hair cannot come after gray
But all our lives we'll be able to say
That we are family
Mom, Dad, Nate and me

Nighttime
Good Nighttime

I can't wait to get older and see
What this world is all about
Now we are 4 where before you were 3
And I'm lucky to live no doubt
I'm lucky to live no doubt

Nighttime cannot come before day
And brown hair cannot come after gray
But all our lives we'll be able to say

words and music by t. w. tendrils and robert voyer

the nature of limiting
to sever what is from what also is
the grounds of a simile
as oceans form continents

turn around i won't stare
laugh out loud i don't care

approaching the unknowable

approaching the unknowable

lo! the unknowable approaches
it holds no discernible form
and our science is as our songs are
a useful metaphor

and we humans we look for patterns
patterns for that's our flaw
we're flawed in that we're fragments
of continuous irreducible infinite beautiful phenomena

and though we've named apoptosis and named the graviton
and we claim to know what folded time is
in truth all metaphors are wrong

and perhaps we're all awaiting judgement or perhaps we will repeat
perhaps we will be raptured, perhaps we'll simply cease
perhaps whatever happens
will be continuous irreducible infinite beautiful phenomena

Robert's Questions:
Why do cells die?
What is space-time? If there is a force (gravity) that causes an object to move towards another when within its gravitational field, what elements/particles are responsible for exerting this force?
Do you believe in hell? An afterlife? If so, any thoughts on what they're like?

this nation of makers
by whom i was made
and you always new
reflect how i've aged
i contain you and you remain

i contain you
for i've measured your span
with wires with iron
over water and fires
i sustained those who traveled
the length of my spine
i contained you but now it's time

to withdraw my bridge
and lay on your surfaces

i contain you
but i can't explain
to the kids with their "milleni-hits"
they won't understand
you know ants build bridges
from the bodies of friends

i contain you for you are my friend

at our tiny dinner table

first deirdre and conor ep available at: beattheindiedrum.com

BTID is proud (or happy as a pig in…mud) to announce its latest netlabel release, At Our Tiny Dinner Table, brought to you by Philadelphia’s Deirdre and Conor. Readers of BTID’s previous incarnation might be familiar with Conor’s membership in Chicago’s now-defunct (but still appreciated!) First Coat, who we had the pleasure of saying a few words about here. Deirdre, no stranger to the Hyde Park scene herself, spent time in the Passerines. The two fell in love and found their paths leading them to the Philly area, where they recently married and began writing songs as a collective. At Our Tiny Dinner Table is their first official release together and hopefully not their last. Be sure to check out the video below for the first ’single’ off the EP!
The news that this would be arriving in my inbox this week set us off on a euphoric wave of glee. It feels great to be getting back into the ‘business’ of releasing music we enjoy and love. 3 years have passed since we had the opportunity to do so. Thank you for continuing to tune in and enjoy the EP + video!

i was a member of a set

mp3

how hoard moves
the multitudes prove
how timing peels apart us humans
we would be healers, preists and teachers
but O the key turns somehow we're neither

but i was a member of set
i could be counted with the several at my back

as the self does what's less selfless
what am i to pay these bills with
and where's my woman because she'll bear witness
to wounds which bloodless bleed this business

i was a member of a set
i could be counted with the ones which i collect

i was a member of a set
i could be counted with the several at my back

hymn for lost wages

mp3

miss liberty, strong to save
who's given me an honest wage
who's bidden each recession deep
it's own appointed limits keep
O hear me when i cry to thee
for our lost provisions
and all the perils we
face as a union

mister lincoln, abraham
who would become the president
who's own fourteenth amendment
made law beliefs self-evident
O hear me when i cry to thee
of all our divisions
and these inequalities
we bear as a union

O citizens, free and brave
O immigrants on the restless waves
O aliens who shelter seek
O foriegn lands O hear me
O hear me when i cry to thee
of all our good intentions
and the possibilities
we share as a union

smile where the rainbow fell down

mp3

what's not clicking
did the stock ticker stop ticking
her tune
what's so unsettling
did our creditors remember our debts
are due

nothing but blue skies
blue skies from now on
with a smile where the rainbow fell down

we had a hunch
we should have known the dough it don't roll itself
--how true
and each adjustment
it's the sucker taking stock of himself
anew

nothing but blue skies
blue skies from now on
with a smile where the rainbow fell down

thy blind sky

mp3

i might peek through key holes
i might creep to you up close
i might peer through telescopes
that i might see you

in thy blind sky
shining with a
cataractous eye
whirling in the night
my how lovely a blight
i do love you

do you know me and if i were known
would you foresee things that i don't
or with empathy would you grow to see
that we're equals

for my clear sight
perceiving here
the manefested sky
circling my eyes
my how lovely a life
that i might see you

in thy blind sky
shining with your
cataractous eye
whirling in the night
my how lovely a blight
i do love you

i do love you

mp3

secretly releasing memory
i believe that we were not all this way
so here i place this in your care
that you might use my life as you see fit
and then but then again
i surmise that we have had an understanding
and though we argue there's we nothing we could do
it's all unproved

i swear it where merits prevail i've failed
come careful wear frailties with shell or scales

come constantly occurring blurry i'll be sure to sight
were i to see a shade i'll raise and surely dowse the blinds
then unlace my eyes
while we kiss riddle me this for i'm unsure what it is

my first is foremost legally
my second circles outwardly
my third leads all in victory
my fourth twice ends a nominee

my first is foremost legally
my second circles outwardly
my third leads all in victory
my fourth twice ends a nominee

come settle me my pilgrim i'm unsettled and i'm unfulfilled

what birdies dream

mp3

my bus was late today but i couldn't wait anymore
because i'd made a date with my one and only true love
so i resigned to run

the birdies on the wing
they that wish that they could run as far as we
and when they go to sleep
they dream of bobbling between A and B

and maybe they'll evolve
and grow a pair of arms
then they'd not look so bizarre
because it's creepy that they're armless as they are

the birdies on the wing
they that wish that they could run as far as we
and when they go to sleep
they dream of bobbling between A and B
and when they're in their trees
they that wish that they could run as far as we
and when they look for seed
they that wish that they could run as far as we
and when they scream their tweets
they that wish that they could run as far as we

they that wish that they could run as far as we

with harmoniums from the interweb

i say please please please allay
history is dead and grows deader each day

like the manuscripts piled vertically
in the windowsill from the library

oh please please please allay
print it is dead and grows deader each day
but we're still alive in these compartments of skin

and if i'm driven to insanity
she will come to me and whisper gently

please please please allay

the seahorse and shore

mp3

when we walk she and i
our foot falls align
as we both stride
we may not say a word
we may talk in turns
so we're both heard

our feet release the ground
the earth falls far below
the heavens grow close
we relinquish control

and so it goes each morn
for the seahorse and shore
and were i to make our case
it would take the shape
of our embrace

our feet release the ground
we alter our hue
the heavens are near
we know what to do

our feet release the ground
it falls far below
our future grows close
we both know our role

the stubbornness of an honest man

mp3

oh i would have had a peaceful wedding day
if it were not the federal penitentiary
which let loose a killer who had vowed to shoot
my bridegroom

jesus tells us we should give up violence
but he never fell in love with my husband
oh god how can help but stand by him
in my defense

i had choose between god's perfect love
and the stubbornness of an honest man

i drew a colt on our pursuer
and blew a hole through his posterior
oh god what else could i have really done
but gun him down

muck with love you get gunned down

2.21.2009

i found a flaw

mp3

i found it best to count on our own
rational self-interest to regulate loans
but then i found a flaw
how could a market take on such risk
wasn't it obvious i wouldn't persist
i found a flaw oh god it's obvious now
i found a flaw please god just tell me
how does one lean on the wind
what if's and should of's and each second guess
so here's where i spill them the US congress
i found a flaw so what it's too late now

all the shiny things

mp3

my legs partially subsided in a lake
as i lay back wondering what i ought to say
radiation fell out on all the shiny things
of creation with a bewilderment of waves
in the confusion everyone started choosing sides
reproducing each one according to its kind
oh oh my word so it was
and the story ended with galaxies which grow
like the fishes nibbling at my toes

who knew it was a tic
the money we needed
we just blew through it

a married woman

mp3

my, my you were an impressive youth
so bright and blessed with unusual beauty too
oh time, time it has been kind so far
we're quite, quite a lot happier

and now a married woman oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
i'm proud, proud that i knew you when

the time, the time when i so dead wrong
you right maybe i'll just shut-up

and now a married woman oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
how about we never fall out of love

2.15.2009

the pillow to her weight

mp3

my love assumes my arm
leaning over on my shoulder
cheeks all flush and warm

soon her eyes will quake with sleep
and her limbs begin to twinge
involuntarily

and i am the pillow to her weight
and do my best to breath
so will not wake

so she dreams and I'm aware
this may be the sweetest thing
that we haven't shared

a heart divided

mp3

human hearts divided into pieces
quartered from within
will not last
as is often said

should our part occur within a crisis
may we do our best
to make amends
until the crisis pass

should the horn of war join our chorus
oh god forbid
let it be said
that we did silence it

blue and grey our bodies lay out nightly
finally at rest
let us of pray of peace:
that we might learn it

amen

2.12.2009

as i was out driving

mp3

blood has a familial taste
as i was out driving
my wife was conspiring
i draw a knife from where it lies
i'm pretty sure she doesn't mind
once, once i drove my car to you
she draws a knife from where it lies
i didn't mind it was her right
words, words i save them all for you
love has a congenial way

2.11.2009

hansel and gretel

mp3

curse the birds
they're eating the breadcrumbs i lay
and worse we'll be devoured whole
by predators wild and strange
unless...
sweet providence
we discover a shelter of ginger
and the taste so delights our lips
let's honor our hostess
and praise her for keeping us safe
and plump

2.10.2009

The midnight clearly

mp3

dear we near the midnight clearly
our bodies are interned
our eyes delight upon the ceiling
they watch the windmill blur
as it turns and returns
and twirls upon the contour of a curve

so close you eyes and we'll go walking
if only in our minds
and should we lay attempt at something
you know it comes out right
every time that we try
we find our trepidations do subside

daybreak is on its way
there are keep sakes in the drawers
and though our worries lay in wait
they do not hold the floor
anymore we're a blur
and we lay upon the contour of a curve

Telescopes

mp3

telescopes guide the ether from the heavens
as we all lie beneath her and look through our lenses
we learn to see by analogies alleluia
oh jesus please forgive me for i do not know ya
oh yes it might have been a momentary lapse
or happenstance
would you believe the moon is stealing her luminensence
would you concede our world is reeling through vast expanses
oh yes it might have been a momentary lapse
or happenstance

Song for the thrills of nuptials

and now a pair we make
love and do partake
of the thrills of nuptials
upon our wedding day

so lets bind our hands with rings
lets tie our hearts with strings
and were they tuned and made to sway
oh i know the chord they'd play
